At NCMG, our mission is to provide high quality, low-ratio, custom guided climbing and backcountry skiing trips around the Pacific Northwest and Internationally.
The guides who work for NCMG are true professionals. With decades of guiding experience, our guides are trained and certified by the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA). The owners of NCMG are instructors and examiners for the AMGA and provide education for the next generation of mountain guides and mountain professionals.
When you climb or ski with North Cascades Mountain Guides you will be entering some of the best alpine terrain in North America with local and professional mountain guides. Your group size will be small, and your guides hold advanced knowledge of the local conditions and the mountain ranges. This level of attention to detail in a small group setting not only increases your enjoyment of the experience, but increases your margin of safety.
We offer private guided trips and courses - backcountry skiing, rock climbing, alpine climbing, mountaineering, and ice climbing. Our emphasis is on safety, fun, and learning in some of the most beautiful and wild terrain around the world.
The majority of our programs are booked on a private basis where the guests choose the date and with their guide choose the right objective. We also offer several courses - AIARE avalanche courses, European ski touring programs, and our rock climbing skills courses.
We can customize any trip to meet your goals. We create memorable outdoor adventures for you regardless of previous experience and abilities. Whether you are choosing a day of rock climbing instruction at our local crags around Mazama, a backcountry ski excursion in the Alps, or your first, or 100th, alpine rock climb on a granite spire in Washington Pass, our courses and trips are aimed at providing you with experiences that will increase your knowledge and enthusiasm in mountain exploration and adventure.
Once a person has experienced the difference between high ratio, impersonal and cookie cutter trips, and the low ratio and custom trips NCMG provides, very few people return to high ratio experiences. Come and experience this for yourself.
Our Approach to Risk and Risk Management
Our goal as a company is to provide each of our clients with a meaningful, high-quality experience in the outdoors while professionally managing objective and subjective risks. Our risk management strategies will conform to the standards represented by the American Mountain Guides Association as well as applicable industry practices of excellence.
Because the word “safety” is defined as protection from harm, we cannot absolutely guarantee safety to our guests. There are real objective and subjective risk in what we do, and our most important responsibility is to manage that risk appropriately to minimize risk while maximizing the impact of the experience provided. We believe that when managed appropriately, risk can have a very real benefit by allowing our guests to experience the natural world while expanding their physical limits.
